As China strives towards developing a modern society amidst the rapid progress of economic globalization, the development of financial innovation will play an important role in driving our country’s economic growth. Currently, our country has major banks such as the Lao Foreign Trade Bank, the Lao Development Bank, the Agricultural Promotion Bank, the Lao-Viet Bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Vientiane Branch, the Lao-French Bank, and other government or privately-run banks, and in the future, there will be a new Lao Exim Bank and other foreign banks setting up in Laos. However, our country still faces many difficulties in the economic and financial fields, most notably the lack of professionals who are familiar with the actual operation of international finance. The development of the finance industry will inevitably lead to an expansion of the demand for financial talent. Therefore, our Lao-Suzhou University has decided to establish an international finance major, mainly to cultivate professionals in this field who possess comprehensive professional capabilities, good moral character, and the ability to meet the modern development needs of Laos.

This major follows the basic standards for running a school set by the Lao Ministry of Education, conforms to the development plan for Lao education reform, scientifically sets professional courses, uses modern high-tech teaching methods and facilities, and cultivates talent who love the Lao Communist Party, love the Lao country and people, possess noble moral sentiments and personality, are physically and mentally healthy, have an international perspective, and innovative spirit, master the theoretical knowledge and technical means of this major, and are useful talents for the progress of Lao society and economic development.

Graduates of this major will use their talents in various institutions such as domestic and foreign banks, future securities, insurance, funds, large enterprises, etc., and become high-end talents in the future financial field of Laos, driving the development of Laos’ finance industry in the international financial market.

Objectives of Talent Cultivation

Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Accounting, International Trade Theory, Monetary and Banking Studies, International Trade Practice, Public Finance, Econometrics, International Finance, International Settlement, and Introduction to World Economy.

The goal of the undergraduate education in International Finance is to require students to possess a basic theoretical knowledge of finance, especially international finance, and the basic ability to handle banking, securities, investment, and insurance business. They should be familiar with relevant financial policies and regulations at home and abroad, understand the theoretical frontier and development trends of this discipline, possess outstanding foreign language abilities and computer skills, and be able to perform various tasks related to international finance in other economic management departments and enterprises.
