As the first institution of higher learning established overseas by China approved and supported by the governments of Laos and China, Soochow University in Laos attaches great importance to the international promotion of Chinese. While using Chinese as the teaching language for undergraduates, a language training center was established in 2012 to hold Chinese training courses at various levels for the Lao society. So far, 44 sessions have been held successively, and more than 4,000 students have been recruited. Soochow University in Laos also cooperates with Chinese-funded institutions in Laos to customize Chinese language training courses for Lao employees of Chinese-funded institutions and provide door-to-door training services. At the same time, it also signed agreements with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Laos, the Lao National Economic Research Institute and other government departments to help them cultivate Chinese talents.

In order to better serve and help Chinese language learners in Laos, after the establishment of the language training center, Soochow University in Laos was approved by Hanban in 2012 to set up an overseas test center for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), becoming the first after the Confucius Institute at the National University of Laos. The second HSK test center in Laos. In recent years, Soochow University in Laos has adhered to the working concept of “attracting wide recognition with meticulous service”, strengthened the tracking and management of the whole process of examination consultation, examination registration, invigilation training, examination room arrangement, follow-up guarantee, etc., and continuously optimized services, striving to achieve Zero error in service work. At the same time, Soochow University in Laos actively responded to and cooperated with the requirements of the Chinese Test International, and promptly configured test monitoring equipment to more effectively supervise the discipline of the test site, providing video evidence for “post-test review and dispute resolution”.

In addition, Soochow University in Laos is also actively “expanding its territory” by cooperating with the Department of Education of Luang Namtha Province in the northernmost part of Laos and the Chongde School in Savannakhet in the south to set up sub-test centers for the Chinese Proficiency Test in the two places, which are held several times a year Sending the test to the sub-test center not only provides local Chinese learners with the opportunity to take the HSK, but also further expands the influence of Soochow University in Laos and Hankao International.

In recent years, the number of candidates in the examination center of Suzhou University in Laos has continued to increase, and the number of candidates in a single session has increased from more than 40 at the beginning to more than 800. Over the past ten years, Soochow University in Laos has held a total of 42 Chinese proficiency tests, providing nearly 10,000 people with the opportunity to take the test. Affected by the global epidemic, the HSK offline test has been blocked in the past three years, but Soochow University in Laos has overcome difficulties and actively resumed the offline test under the premise of epidemic prevention and control to provide convenience for Chinese learners in the Lao society.
